The Doctorado Interinstitucional en Educación and Licenciatura en Lenguas Extranjeras con Énfasis en Inglés of the Universidad Distrital invite you to the workshop Practitioner/classroom research: From study design to publication By Betsy Gilliland, PhD. Professor at University of Hawai’i Mānoa.
Too often, research in language teaching and applied linguistics discounts the knowledge that instructors develop from their own practice; researchers from the outside attempt to tell teachers what to do rather than listening to what teachers know from their own experience. This workshop introduces participants to the broad range of research that can be conducted by practitioners in their own classrooms and with colleagues. We will examine study focus, research methods selection, research ethics, and data analysis. Our goal is to develop research projects that build on actual experiences and consider how to frame this work for broader audiences. The workshop will also address ways to present practitioner research for applied linguistics conferences and publications in both research and teaching, including identifying appropriate journal venues for such work.
