In this chapter I intend to show the methodological uncertainties that arise when approaching the concept of identity from a heterarchical and dialogic perspective, since I understand that the individual is not an object from which information must be extracted. Throughout the development of this text, I have chosen to speak from my locus of enunciation as a bilingual science teacher. Thus, from a very intimate perspective, I advance towards the description of my research interests as a doctoral student, followed by an account of how identity has been working from my literature review exercise, closing with the methodological possibilities that interest me and those that do not.

Understanding investigative processes and their relationship with the researcher and their context gives meaning to the investigations. In the section called “Locus of enunciation,” this study establishes its specific context by focusing on the case of a bilingual science teacher in Bogotá. This particular setting is essential, as the challenges and implications differ significantly from those found in other contexts, such as bilingual education within the Indigenous communities of the Amazon. So, my locus of enunciation describes who I am and the reasons for some of my decisions in terms of identity.
