Introduction. Exploring the decolonial challenge: Critical pedagogy and epistemological translation in applied linguistic research in Latin America

This edited volume explores the critical decolonial practices that 13 teachers/researchers from Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, and the Latin American diaspora applied in their research, and that they experienced as they wrote up this research for publication in English. The authors were asked to define how they understand the concept of ‘decolonization’, and to reflect on the ‘interepistemic dialogues’ they engaged in to convey their findings to a larger global readership. In this introduction, we show the larger theoretical framework within which the book unfolds by giving a critical look at the current state of decolonial research in the field of applied linguistics. We then summarize each of the nine chapters and the overall argument they make regarding the link between decolonizing efforts and what we have called a 'multilingual mindset'.
